The New York State Police and Reinvention Collaborative   initiative was created in 2020 to “foster trust, fairness and legitimacy” within communities throughout our state and to “address any racial bias and disproportionate policing of communities of color.”  Subsequently, members of the community were appointed by the town board to collaborate with the Shandaken Police to improve the police department, with a special focus on bias and racism.  The Shandaken PRC is currently examining the police department, eliciting feedback from the public and issuing a document of recommended reforms on April 1st, 2021
